Episode 4: 01×04 – Chapter Four: Commit… to YOU

Commit to the next hour with Kailyn (she/they) and guest J (she/they) as they tackle episode four of Barry. This podcast episode explores Sally’s frequent obstacles with men and her burgeoning acting career, Barry’s double life beginning to unravel as his toxicity bleeds into a public forum, Fuches becoming an unlikely voice of reason, and the emergence of Gene’s softer, sympathetic side.

Hi! Just wanted to say re- Gene’s manager; it’s totally believable that they forgot about that one line, but it’s also very believable that Gene and his manager have a very precarious business relationship, and at that time his manager was temporarily not representing him for one reason or another. That’s my headcanon anyway for that particular situating

i’ve thought about this line a bunch and always thought something similar! and while i don’t know a ton about the acting industry, i do know as an agented writer that having an agent does not figure into submitting work to literary journals/magazines because payment is often so insignificant and there’s no room for negotiation that many don’t disclose they even have an agent when submitting to them. similarly, gene might have a clause in his contract indicating he can seek out bit roles on his own without involvement from his manager… the roles gene was auditioning for were so minor (literally sounded like they were for characters with a single line), and having to give his manager a cut of what would’ve been a very small payout anyway for a role that’s only one step above an extra wouldn’t be worth it imo.

also: thanks so much for listening and leaving a comment! 🙂
